Fresh Oil FAQ’s

  • When you are choosing a cooking oil, there are a few things you should consider:

    • Fat quality - Not all fats are created equal. Different types of fats have different effects on your blood cholesterol. Our ELITE FRYING OIL is 4.5* health rated.

    • Temperature - Different oils have different smoke points—the temperature when smoke starts to come from the surface of the oil—which means the fat is breaking down and your food will have a burnt flavor. Canola oil has a high smoke point which makes it the perfect Cooking Oil for your commercial kitchen.

    • Flavour - Olive oils range from extra virgin to virgin to pure, and the flavor ranges from strong to mild accordingly. Canola Oil on the other hand has a mild flavor making it perfect to use in sauces and salad dressings.

  • ECOFRY supplies naturally sourced high-quality canola oil grown by Australian farmers from the Riverina region of NSW. Freshly harvested seeds are crushed, processed and packed within 72 hours.

  • ECOFRY canola oil is unique because it is sourced directly from the Riverina region of NSW, supporting local farmers and sustainable agriculture. Our oil undergoes minimal processing to retain its natural nutrients and purity, ensuring a high-quality product that enhances the flavour of your dishes.

Our canola oil is renowned for its purity, health benefits, and versatility, making it an excellent choice for a variety of cooking methods, including frying, sautéing, baking, and more including salad dressings and sauces. By choosing ECOFRY canola oil, you support local farmers and sustainable agriculture while enjoying a premium product.

  • ECOFRY canola oil undergoes the following processing steps:

    1. Seed Procurement: Our supplier sources high-quality, non-GMO canola seeds from farmers in the Riverina region of NSW. The seeds undergo rigorous quality checks to ensure they meet ECOFRY standards.

    1. Seed Cleaning: Canola seeds are first cleaned to remove any impurities such as plant material, soil, and other debris. This is done using sieves, air separation, and magnetic devices.

    1. Seed Conditioning and Flaking: The cleaned seeds are then conditioned by heating them slightly to improve the efficiency of oil extraction. After conditioning, the seeds are flaked by rolling them through large rollers to rupture the cell walls, which facilitates oil extraction.

    2. Mechanical Pressing: The flaked seeds are passed through a mechanical press to extract the majority of the oil. This step is known as expeller pressing. The remaining seed material, known as canola cake, still contains some oil and is usually processed further.

    3. Solvent Extraction: The canola cake is subjected to solvent extraction, typically using hexane, to extract the remaining oil. The hexane is then evaporated and recovered, leaving the oil behind.

    4. Desolventising: The canola meal (solid residue after oil extraction) is desolventised to remove any remaining solvent, which can be reused in the extraction process. The meal is often used as animal feed due to its high protein content.

    5. Oil Refining: The extracted crude canola oil undergoes refining to improve its quality. This typically involves several steps:

    a. Degumming: Water or acid is added to the oil to remove phospholipids, which are then separated by centrifugation.

    b. Neutralising: The oil is treated with an alkali, such as sodium hydroxide, to neutralise free fatty acids and remove them by centrifugation.

    c. Bleaching: The oil is treated with bleaching earth or activated carbon to remove pigments and other impurities.

    d. Deodorising: The oil is subjected to steam distillation under a vacuum to remove volatile compounds that can affect its flavour and odour.

    1. Packaging: The refined canola oil is filtered and packaged for distribution. It is typically packaged in bottles, cans, or bulk containers depending on the intended use.

These steps ensure that our ELITE FRYING OIL is high quality, safe for consumption, and retains its nutritional benefits according to Australian food standards.

  • Between 400-450°F. ECOFRY Canola Oil is always a solid choice with its smoke point between 400-450°F (204-230°C).
